Therapeutic Thursday: Depression

- see article at- http://www.therapyideas.net/depression.htm

Homework-
  • Finish this sentence as many times as possible: "I am angry about __________!" When you've completed the sentences, ask yourself, "Is there a want that you can speak up about or take action on?"
  • See the movie Ulee's Gold.
  • Read The Feeling Good Handbook by David Burns, MD This book offers a healthy dose of cognitive restructuring.
  • Read Undercurrents by Martha Manning - A therapist's reckoning with her own depression.
  • Write in one column what you feel guilty about, as many examples as you can think of all at once. Then look through them and see if there is a legitimate reasonable obligation to address or is there an unspoken resentment being hoarded about what is unreasonable? (below is form)

-My personal suggestion for reading is- Valley of Sorrow, by Alexander B. Morrison
LDS.org also has some great articles on Depression (click here)
